On what was 2025’s coldest weekend (27-28 June) to date, the regional roster of the Extreme Festival Presented By Coca-Cola delivered a host of entertaining mid-season battles at Red Star Raceway outside Delmas.
Defending DOE Formula Vee Partnered With CIM Lubricants champion Lendl Jansen (Bull Security Rhema 2) extended his points lead after winning both the day’s races. While he built a margin of comfort up front in both races, there was a host of entertaining tussles behind him. In Race 1, it was Peter Hills (MXTwo Rhema 2) who beat Gert van der Berg (DOE Quality Parts Rhema 2) to second place, with the positions reversed in Race 2.
The BMW ///M Performance Parts Series delivered an entire host of championship upsets throughout the day. Elwyn Steenkamp (BMWF82 M4), who made his return to the grid, took the Class A honours in the day’s first race from Bob Neill (Delmon Mining BMW E92 M3 Turbo). Renier Smith (Fast Development BMW E36 M3 Turbo) continued his winning momentum in Class B, ahead of Nek Makris (BMW E46 335i) and Anton Pommersheim (Eagle Granite BMW E46 M3 Turbo). In Class C, it was Nishal Singh (Autonische BMW F80 M3) who took the win, while Lenard Archer (ACD Welkom BMW E90 335i) held off debutant Ethan Coetzee (Ethan Coetzee Motorsport BMW F30 340i).
Race 2 was stopped midway due to Hein van der Merwe’s SavSpeed Racing BMW E36 328i Turbo stopping in a precarious position. Neill beat Steenkamp in Class A. Pommersheim took his first Class B win from Makris and Smith. Coetzee won Class C from Stefan Snyders (Steton Investments BMW E90 M3 Turbo) and Salvi Gualtieri (Savspeed BMW E36 328i Turbo).
In the second group, Andre van Vuuren (Curvent International BMW E36 325i Turbo) won Class D in both races. In the first race, Bernard de Gouveia (De Gouveia Accountants BMW E46 M3) and Eugene Gouws (Master Mowers BMW E36 328i) completed the podium. Race 2 saw Olerato Sekudu (Rampage Racing BMW E36 M3) and Troy Cochran (Tyremart Boksburg BMW E36 M3) complete the podium.
Race 1 saw a maiden win for Karabo Malemela (NGK Pablo Clark Racing BMW E46 330i) in Class E, with Cobus Bohmer (AMX 4×4 Accessories BMW E12 540i) and Kent Swarts (AutoTrader BMW E46 330i) completing the podium. This trio repeated their results in Race 2. Zaheer Seedat (Saltwater Marketing BMW E36 328i) took both Class F wins, with Henry Platt (Mosco Specialised Contractors BMW E36/7 Z3) finishing as runner-up twice. In Race 1, Mariska du Plessis BMW E36 328i) completed the podium, while Zeyad Ismail (BMW E36 328i) finished third in Race 2.
Terry Wilford (Fuchs Lubricants Ford Mustang) looked to have things under control at the head of the field in the second Dunlop V8 Supercars race after taking a comfortable win in the opening heat from Warren Lombard (PepBoys Automotive Ford Mustang) and Thomas Reib (Café 9 Automotive Chevrolet Lumina), but the racing gods had other ideas. His Mustang ground to a halt on the seventh lap, handing the lead to championship leader Reib, who went on to take the win from Auke Compaan (CIM Lubricants / Brooklyn Motors Ford Mustang).
A number of Ferro Energia 111/GT Sports & Saloons drivers were bumped up to the GT class after breaking out of the 111 Class A time limit, giving Philip Meyer (The Swiss Hotel School Porsche 924 GTR) some competition. Meyer, however, shrugged that off and took victory in the opening heat from Wouter Roos (Origen Oil VW Golf and Jonathan Visser (Auto Express Car Service VW Polo) after Marius Truter (Strategic Diff and Gearbox VW Golf) and Stefan Snyder (Steton Investments BMW) were penalised for breaking out of the time limit. Further down the field, Wayne Rob (Ford Focus 225 ST) topped Class A, ahead of Piet Potgieter (Nathan’s Motorsport VW Golf) and Lindsey Clur (Nathan’s Motorsport VW Golf). Class B went to Mike O’Sullivan (All Things Motoring Honda Ballade), while Keegan Nathan (Nathan’s Motorsport VW Polo) led the Class C field home. In the SuperHatch category, Quintus Viljoen (AccuRent VW Polo) won T1, Ishmael Baloyi (Trans Africa Racing Honda Civic) headed Class A, and Keithin Meintjies (TRC Truck Repair Centre Renault Sandero) led the T2 pack home.
With more penalties being applied at the front of the GT categories in the second heat, Roos was declared the winner ahead of Truter and Meyer. Class A was a repeat of the opening heat, with Robb taking the victory from Potgieter and Clur. O’Sullivan and Nathan repeated their respective Class B and C wins. Vijoen again led the way in Class T1 in the SuperHatch category. Baloyi again took Class A with Leon Bredenkamp (Honda Civic) getting the better of Meintjies to take the T2 class.
The ATE VW Challenge saw a host of double winners. In Class A, Wayne Masters (Performance Masters Volkswagen Polo) beat Jayden Goosen (Ferro Energia Volkswagen Polo) in both races, with a good tussle between the pair in Race 2. Ian Walker (Mellow Velo Volkswagen Polo) completed the podium on both occasions.
Stuart Mack (Autozone Volkswagen Polo) beat Jonathan Konig (Northern Bolt & Tool Volkswagen Polo) and Chris Davison (Generator Services Inc Volkswagen Polo) in Race 1, with Francis Aldrich (VaporWorx Volkswagen Polo) completing the Race 2 podium.
Bryce Pillay (Matelico Autobody Volkswagen Polo) took Class C in both races, with Mitch Coetzee (Ethan Coetzee Motorsport Volkswagen Polo) also taking both third spots. Adriaan de Beer (Ukwazi Engineering Volkswagen Polo) and Stuart Konig (Northern Bolt & Tool Volkswagen Polo) took the runner-up spot in the two respective races.
With a mid-season break now starting for the Extreme Festival Presented by Coca-Cola’s regional roster, their next outing will be on 22-23 August at the East London Grand Prix Circuit. This will be the coastal round for all the regional series. East London will also host the next instalment of the national tour on 18-19 July.
