This coming weekend (27-28 June) will see the Extreme Festival Presented By Coca-Cola regional roster’s first 2025 visit to Red Star Raceway outside Delmas. With the event marking either the mid-season or the start of the second half for all series, there will be a lot at stake.

This is one of the few circuits in the world able to host events in both directions. This weekend will see the anti-clockwise layout of the four-kilometre, 13-turn circuit being utilised.

The DOE Formula Vee Partnered With CIM Lubricants series will start the programme. Defending champion Lendl Jansen is yet to enter the event, but currently holds a 25-point advantage. Should he feature, he would look to extend his lead. However, the likes of Gert van den Berg (DOE Quality Parts Rhema 2) and Vaughn Hills (MXTwo Rhema 2), both tied on 73 points, will nonetheless look to close the gap.

The BMW ///M Performance Parts Race Series will bring the largest number of entries to the event this weekend. Consequently, the group will be split into two again, with Classes A, B, and C competing separately from Classes D, E, and F.

Leon Loubser (Monaco Motors BMW E92 335i) currently heads up Class A and has a reputation as one of the fastest drivers at the circuit. A driver to watch out for is Elwyn Steenkamp (BMW F82 M4), who returns to the series. Renier Smith (Fast Development BMW E36 M3 Turbo) heads up Class B, and the Series points table, with Anton Pommersheim (Eagle Granite BMW E46 M3 Turbo), looking to establish himself as one of the contenders following a couple of pacey recent outings. Class C will feature the likes of Salvi Gualtieri (Savspeed BMW E36 328i Turbo) and Hein van der Merwe (SavSpeed Racing BMW E36 328i Turbo) going head-to-head.

Bernard de Gouveia (De Gouveia Accountants BMW E46 M3) leads things out in Class D, and recent winner Dawie Olivier (International Race Supplies BMW E30 330i) will be one of the drivers who will look to haul him in. Wessel Mostert (Mosco Contractors BMW E46 M3), who leads Class E, is one of this year’s most prominent debutants. Former leader Eddie Rodrigues (Eddie7Racing BMW E46 330i) will be one of the drivers seeking Red Star Raceway supremacy. Shaun Dodd (BMW E36 328i) heads up Class F, with Zaheer Seedat (Saltwater Marketing BMW E36 328i) being one of his close rivals.

Thomas Reib (Café 9 Automotive Chevrolet Lumina), who recently took the lead of the Dunlop V8 Supercars championship, will look to excel at the circuit, but will face fierce competition from the likes of GT Class rival Warren Lombard (PepBoys Automotive Ford Mustang) and Auke Compaan (Hurricane Automotive Ford Mustang), who competes in the GT2 Class.

At present, Philip Meyer (The Swiss Hotel School Porsche 924 GTR) is the sole GT Class entrant in the Ferro Energia 111 & GT Sports & Saloons Series. Should the likes of George Economides, Mark du Toit, and Marnus du Plessis not compete, he will be in a strong position to close the gap.

The timed classes will see Class A and Series points leader Wayne Robb (Ford Focus 225 ST) look to extend his advantage against the likes of Class A rival and defending Series champion Wouter Roos (Origen Oil Volkswagen Golf), Class B’s Wayne Lebotschy (SHIELD Volkswagen Golf), and Class C’s Keegan Nathan (Nathan’s Motorsport Volkswagen Polo).

This field will also include the SuperHatch series, where Keithin Meintjies (TRC Truck Repair Centre Renault Sandero) holds the lead, with Tyron Pillay (TPAS Volkswagen Golf) and Leon Bredenkamp (Trans Africa Racing Honda Civic) also in contention.

Jayden Goosen (Ferro Energia Volkswagen Polo) will be one of the contenders to watch in Class A of the ATE VW Challenge. He currently leads the class points table from Wayne Masters (Performance Masters Volkswagen Polo) by seven points, while Ian Walker (Mellow Velo Volkswagen Polo) is also looking to make up points.

Defending Series and Class B champion Stuart Mack (Autozone Volkswagen Polo) holds a 20-point advantage over Francois Aldrich (VaporWorx Volkswagen Polo), who finds himself 10 points ahead of Chris Davison, yet to enter the event.

Class C and Series points leader Adriaan de Beer (Ukwazi Engineering Volkswagen Polo) will compete against the likes of Mitch Coetzee (JRT Racing Experience Volkswagen Polo) and Bryce Pillay (Designlab Volkswagen Polo).

Spectator tickets will be available from the Red Star Raceway entrance gate at R120 per person, and children under 12 enter for free. Saturday’s race day will also be broadcast live via the Extreme Festival website.
