Stage set at Red Star Raceway for penultimate Extreme Festival Presented By Coca-Cola regional battles

Red Star Raceway is ready to host this weekend’s Extreme Festival Presented By Coca-Cola

After its coastal adventure, the Extreme Festival Presented By Coca-Cola‘s regional roster will travel to Red Star Raceway outside Delmas this coming weekend (3-4 October) as the 2025 championship battles are drawing to a close.

Although the number of championship rounds for a lot of the series on the programme will differ, this will be the penultimate round for all but one series. It will be the second visit to the four-kilometre circuit in just over three months, but this outing will utilise the clockwise layout, which last featured on the tour in May 2024. The weekend will also feature some national championship flavour, marking the first occasion that one of the national series will compete at Red Star Raceway since mid-2022, also around the clockwise layout.

The national series that will join the event is Investchem MSA4. At the start of its inaugural season, the country’s premier single-seater series faced various logistical challenges, which prevented two of the early championship rounds from taking place. Subsequently, some rounds saw the addition of extra races, while the revised calendar also announced this weekend’s appearance at Red Star Raceway.

KC Ensor-Smith (African Heating) has an eight-point advantage over Mikel Bezuidenhout (Corsa Dei Gemelli). While Ensor-Smith has four wins from the seven races to his name, it is Bezuidenhout who will start the round with some momentum, after taking his tally to three with a double-victory at Killarney International Raceway. Shrien Naidoo (Production X) occupies third place on the points table, 19 points behind Bezuidenhout.

The series is set to see a newcomer this weekend as well. Regular Corsa Dei Gemelli ace Kian Spes will be competing abroad this weekend, with his national tour counterpart, GR Cup Driven By Netstar driver Kent Swartz, standing in for him. Swartz, who also competes in the BMW ///M Performance Parts Race Series, will be one of a few drivers doing double-duty this weekend. With Karabo Malemela also competing in both Investchem MSA4 and BMW ///M Performance Parts Race Series.

The Formula Ford Kent brigade will join the Investchem MSA4 grid for their final outing of 2025. Originally scheduled to coincide with the national roster’s season finale at Zwartkops Raceway, this round was brought forward to accommodate those competing in Great Britain’s annual Walter Hayes trophy event. Ian Schofield (Investchem) and Allen Meyer (Investcherm) are just two of the drivers to watch in this field.

The battles at the top of the various BMW ///M Performance Parts Race Series classes are also set to intensify, particularly with some also keeping an eye on the Series’ points table.

Leon Loubser (Monaco Motors BMW E92 335i) will be one of the drivers to watch for at the front of Class A, but he might have his work cut out for him with Rick Loureiro (Combined Racing BMW F30 335i) and Paulo Loureiro (Combined Racing F30 335i) both entered. This will be the latter of the Loureiro brothers’ first non-Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit outing in more than three years. Class B will see the defending champion Renier Smith (Fast Development E36 M3 Turbo) battle it out against the likes of Anton Pommersheim (Eagle Granite E46 M3 Turbo) and Andreas Meier (CEC E36 320iT STC). After missing the East London round, Salvi Gualtieri (Eataly Foods E36 328i) will be back to defend his top spot on the Class C points table from Nishal Singh (Autonische BMW F80 M3) and Anand Naidu (S A Autotech BMW M3  F80), among others. This group will compete separately from the Class D, E & F field, which makes it possible for Nick Naidoo to compete in Class C with his Wardens Cartage BMW F87 M2, and in Class D with his Wardens Cartage E82 1M.

The Class D battle will see Andre van Vuuren (Curvent International BMW E36 325i Turbo) and Bernard de Gouveia (De Gouveia Accountants BMW E46 M3) continue their rivalry at the front, while 2024’s class champion, Nicholas Herbst (CIM Lubricants BMW E90 330i), will also be back on the grid. Malemela heads up Class E in his Liqui-Moly BMW E46 330i from Wessel Mostert (Mosco Specialised Contractors BMW E46 M3). Like Malemela, Mostert is also on the double-duty roster, racing the same car in the ACD Welkom 111 & GT Sports & Saloon series. Former class leader Eddie Rodrigues (Eddie7Racing BMW E46 330i) is another driver likely to feature in the front-end battle. Zaheer Seedat (Saltwater Marketing BMW E36 328i) heads up Class F, with Kyan Boodaya (Wardens Cartage BMW F30 330D) and Caren Nienaber (V-Tek Motorsport BMW E30 325I) also currently occupying the top three.

Smith heads up the overall championship from Loubser and Malemela.

The battle is heating up at the front of the Dunlop V8 Supercars Championship. Thomas Reib (Cafe 9 Automotive Chevrolet Lumina) has a slender six-point lead over Warren Lombard (Pepboys Automotive Ford Mustang). While this pair have been trading the top spot throughout the season, the battle behind them also continued. Terry Wilford’s (Wilford Racing Ford Mustang) resurgence in recent rounds now sees him third on the points table.

The DOE Formula Vee Partnered With CIM Lubricants field will again look to entertain. Defending champion Lendl Jansen (Bull Security Rhema 2) does hold a commanding 51-point lead heading into the weekend at the only circuit where he has not won a race in 2025. The previous outing saw the wins shared between second-placed Gert van den Berg (DOE Quality Parts Rhema 2) and ninth-placed Kyle Watt (MXTwo Rhema 2). Vaughn Hills (MXTwo Rhema 2) currently occupies third place and will be looking for its first win in 2025.

The ACD Welkom 111 & GT Sports & Saloons field also looks set to deliver another host of action-packed battles throughout the field.

The Reigning champion in the timed-class-based 111 Sports & Saloons portion of the series, Wouter Roos (Origen Oil Volkswagen Golf), now competes in the GT field, where he holds a sizeable lead over Jonathan Visser (Auto Express Car Service Volkswagen Polo).

In Class A, Wayne Robb (Ford Focus) and Piet Potgieter (Nathan’s Motorsport Volkswagen Golf) look set to continue their battle. Wayne Lebotschy (Shield Volkswagen Golf) and Mike O’Sullivan (All Things Motoring Honda Ballade) should continue their entrawling Class B contest. In Class C, young guns Keegan Nathan (Nathan’s Motorsport Volkswagen Polo) and Christopher Tait (Sportex Volkswagen Polo) will be two of the drivers to watch for.

Robb heads up the Series’ championship from Nathan and Tait.

Class T1’s Tyron Pillay (TPAS Volkswagen Golf) will score in both SuperHatch, as well as Class C of the ACD Welkom 111 & GT Sports & Saloons. The ATE VW Challenge will round out the weekend’s action. In Class A, it is Jayden Goosen (AA Certified Pre-Owned Volkswagen Polo) who heads things up from Wayne Masters (Performance Masters Volkswagen Polo), with Ian Walker (Mellow Velo Volkswagen Polo) third. The latter pair will look forward to their first outing in more than three months, with both missing the recent trip to East London. Class B sees the defending champion, Stuart Mack (Autozone Volkswagen Polo), on top, with Francis Aldrich (Volkswagen Polo) second, and Chris Davison (Himoinsha Volkswagen Polo third. Adriaan de Beer Ukwazi Engineering Volkswagen Polo) leads the Class C battle from Bryce Pillay (Design Lab Volkswagen Polo).

De Beer and Pillay also head up the Series’ overall points table from defending champion Mack, all within two points of each other.
